Hair Stylist Website Design – Styled by Allesse

Hair Stylist Website Design – Styled by Allesse

Styled by Allesse is a hairstyling business dedicated to making little girls feel like princesses through creative and beautiful hairstyles. With a background in hair styling through East Kent College (EKC) and over seven years working in childcare, Allesse discovered her passion for styling while working at a nursery.

Creating braids, twists and sparkling hairstyles for children quickly became something she loved doing, and Styled by Allesse was created to bring that passion to a wider audience.

To help launch the business, I designed the logo, brand identity and website, creating a simple but elegant platform where parents can learn about the services and book appointments online.

The website can be viewed at:
styledbyallesse.co.uk

The project began with the creation of the Styled by Allesse logo and branding. Because the business focuses on young clients and special occasions, the branding needed to feel:

  • Friendly
  • Elegant
  • Playful
  • Suitable for a children’s styling business

The visual identity was designed to reflect the idea of making every child feel special, confident and glamorous.

The logo and colour palette provide a soft, welcoming look while still feeling professional enough to represent the business as it grows.

A Website Built Using “Website in a Day”

This project was developed using my Website in a Day service, which is designed for small businesses and start‑ups that need a professional website quickly and affordably.

The concept behind this service is simple:
By working closely with the business owner during a single day of development, the website can be designed, built and launched within a very short timeframe.

For many service‑based businesses, a simple and well‑structured website is often all that is required to start generating enquiries and bookings.

One‑Page Website Design

The Styled by Allesse website uses a single‑page layout with navigable sections, allowing visitors to smoothly scroll through the different parts of the site.

This style of website is particularly effective for small businesses because it keeps everything clear and easy to navigate.

Sections on the page include:

  • About the stylist
  • Hairstyling services
  • Example styles and inspiration
  • Online booking
  • Contact information

Visitors can use the navigation menu to jump directly to each section of the page.

Online Booking System

A key feature of the website is the online booking system, which allows parents to easily schedule appointments.

This makes it much easier for customers to book styling sessions without needing to send messages back and forth to confirm availability.

The booking system helps streamline the process by allowing clients to:

  • Select available time slots
  • Book appointments online
  • Manage their bookings easily

For small service businesses, this type of functionality can significantly improve efficiency while providing a better customer experience.

A Website Designed for a Growing Business

The Styled by Allesse website provides a strong online foundation for the business as it grows.

By combining:

  • Custom branding
  • A professional website
  • Online booking functionality

The platform helps introduce the business to new customers while making it easy for existing clients to schedule appointments.

My Role in This Project

For this project I was responsible for:

Technologies Used

  • WordPress CMS
  • Divi theme builder

Photography Online Course Website Design – Shutter Mastery

Photography Online Course Website Design – Shutter Mastery

Shutter Mastery is a new online training platform for photographers, developed as part of the Scorpion Media Group. After several years teaching photography in person – including the highly successful Back to Basics course delivered to over 1,500 students in just three years – I began receiving many requests for an online version of the training.

Some students couldn’t attend due to travel distance, scheduling conflicts or geographic location, so the idea behind Shutter Mastery was born:
A complete online education platform where photographers can learn at their own pace from anywhere in the world.

The platform launched with the brand‑new online version of Back to Basics and is designed to grow into a library of photography courses from trainers all across the UK, eventually supporting live events, workshops, trade shows and international training opportunities.

Creating a Professional Photography Education Platform

The goal of Shutter Mastery was to create a platform that felt:

  • Modern
  • Premium
  • Easy to use
  • Interactive
  • Suitable for both beginner and advanced photographers

The website was developed using WordPress, Divi and Tutor LMS, providing a strong foundation for a scalable online learning platform capable of supporting thousands of students.

photography online course website

Back to Basics – Now Fully Online

The first course launched on the platform is the online version of Back to Basics, the signature training programme that originally made the teaching business so successful.

This course teaches complete beginners:

  • How to use their camera
  • How settings affect creative control
  • How to shoot confidently in Full Manual Mode
  • Composition and exposure fundamentals
  • How to understand and control light

The online version recreates the in‑person experience through:

  • Interactive video lessons
  • Practice exercises
  • Experiments
  • Quizzes
  • A final certification exam

Students can now learn everything from turning their camera on to shooting confidently in manual mode — entirely online.

Built for Long‑Term Expansion

Shutter Mastery is designed as more than just a single course website.

It will become a platform where photographers from all over the UK can contribute:

  • Online courses
  • Workshops
  • Masterclasses
  • Guest sessions
  • Live seminars
  • Industry training events

This opens the door for collaborations with:

  • Professional photographers
  • Brands
  • Training educators
  • Exhibitors and trade partners

The website’s structure and branding were built to support this long‑term vision.

Powered by WordPress, Divi & Tutor LMS

To build a robust and scalable learning environment, the following tools were used:

WordPress

A flexible content management system that allows the site to expand as new courses and features are added.

Divi

Used for the visual layout, page design and responsive structure, allowing precise control of the branding and design elements.

Tutor LMS

A professional learning management system that powers:

  • Course modules
  • Interactive video delivery
  • Lesson progression
  • Quizzes and experiments
  • Certification
  • Student dashboards
  • Reporting & analytics

This combination creates an intuitive and professional online learning experience for students.

Interactive Learning Features

A key part of the project was ensuring the learning experience felt interactive and engaging, especially for visual learners such as photographers.

The site includes:

  • Interactive video lessons
  • Hands‑on experiments to reinforce learning
  • Quizzes throughout the course
  • final certification upon completion
  • A secure student dashboard
  • Course progress tracking

This helps bridge the gap between in‑person and online learning.

Shutter Mastery has launched with the support of several major names in the photography industry, including:

  • Elinchrom
  • Photospeed
  • Junction 11
  • Adobe

These partnerships reinforce the platform’s credibility and help support long‑term growth, collaborations and future educational events.

Online Computing Course Website Design – Success Computing

Online Computing Course Website Design – Success Computing

Success Computing was created as a sister company to Success Tuition and Training Centre (STTC) in Maidstone. While the tuition centre focuses on 11+ and GCSE students, the classroom facilities remain unused during the daytime.

To make better use of the space, the business expanded by launching Success Computing, a training platform designed to deliver daytime computing courses for adults and professionals looking to upskill or complete CPD training.

To support the new venture, I designed and developed the Success Computing website, creating an online platform that could promote computing courses while also delivering digital learning content.

Expanding an Education Business

The idea behind Success Computing was to expand the training centre’s offering to a new audience.

While the existing tuition centre supports school students in the evenings and weekends, the new platform focuses on:

  • Adult learners
  • Professionals looking to improve digital skills
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

This allowed the business to maximise the use of its facilities while providing valuable training opportunities for the local community.

WordPress Website with Online Learning Platform

The website was built using WordPress, following a similar structure to the Success Tuition website so that both platforms maintained a consistent user experience.

However, while the tuition website primarily acts as a revision resource library, the Success Computing platform focuses more heavily on delivering structured online courses.

Using Tutor LMS, the website allows students to access course materials and training resources through a dedicated learning system.

Key features include:

  • Structured course modules
  • Video lessons and resources
  • Online learning dashboard
  • Student access management

Supporting Adult Learning and CPD

The Success Computing website was designed to support a variety of professional and adult learning courses, allowing learners to develop new digital skills.

These types of training courses are particularly useful for:

  • Professionals looking to improve computer skills
  • Individuals returning to education
  • People completing CPD training

By offering both in‑person sessions and online course materials, the platform provides flexible learning opportunities for students.

Creating a New Brand Identity

Because Success Computing is closely linked to Success Tuition and Training Centre, the branding needed to feel connected while still establishing a clear identity for the new business.

As part of the project, I designed the Success Computing logo, ensuring it visually complemented the existing STTC branding.

The design incorporates three elements surrounding the icon, representing the idea of chasing success and continuous progress.

This approach creates a strong visual link between the two brands while giving the new company its own identity.

A Template for Future Educational Platforms

The structure developed for the Success Tuition website provided a strong foundation for the Success Computing platform.

By building the websites with a similar structure and technology stack, the two platforms maintain:

  • Consistent branding
  • Similar user experience
  • Shared technical foundations

This approach allows the business to expand its training services more easily in the future.

My Role in This Project

For this project I was responsible for:

Technologies Used

  • WordPress CMS
  • Tutor LMS

Garage Equipment Website Design – Kent Garage Equipment

Garage Equipment Website Design – Kent Garage Equipment

Kent Garage Equipment is a specialist supplier of garage equipment, vehicle lifts and workshop tools, providing equipment and installation services for garages and automotive workshops across the UK.

While working with the company, I carried out a complete redesign of the Kent Garage Equipment website, modernising the design and restructuring the site to better support the company’s trade‑focused business model.

The project included rebuilding the website using WordPress and WooCommerce, while also developing new branding guidelines, marketing materials and brochure templates to ensure consistent branding across the business.

The Challenge – Restructuring the Website for Trade Customers

The previous website allowed customers to purchase products directly online, which created challenges because many of the products sold by Kent Garage Equipment require consultation before purchase.

Large workshop equipment such as vehicle lifts, MOT bays and garage installations often require:

  • Site assessments
  • Installation planning
  • Consultation with the customer

Because of this, the website needed to be redesigned so that customers could browse products and installations while contacting the company directly for quotations and advice.

garage equipment website design

WordPress and WooCommerce Website Development

The redesigned website was built using WordPress with WooCommerce, allowing the company to organise its products into a clear and easy‑to‑navigate catalogue.

WooCommerce provided a familiar e‑commerce style layout, allowing visitors to browse products in a structured way.

However, instead of allowing customers to purchase products directly online, the website was configured to encourage product enquiries rather than direct checkout.

This approach allows visitors to explore the equipment available while ensuring the company can properly advise customers before installation.

Installation Portfolio

A key feature of the website was the addition of a section showcasing previous installations carried out by the company.

These projects demonstrate the type of work Kent Garage Equipment carries out and provide potential customers with examples of completed installations.

Examples included:

  • Vehicle lift installations
  • MOT testing bays
  • Workshop equipment installations

Showing real installations helps build trust with potential customers while also demonstrating the experience and capabilities of the business.

garage equipment website design

Online Brochures with Flipbooks

To make it easier for visitors to view product information and marketing materials, the website also included interactive flipbooks for viewing brochures online.

These digital brochures allow visitors to:

  • Browse product catalogues directly on the website
  • View marketing materials without downloading files
  • Easily explore equipment specifications

This feature helps improve the user experience while making it easier for customers to access important product information.

garage equipment website design

Creating a Product Catalogue Experience

Although WooCommerce powers the product system, the website functions primarily as a product catalogue for garage equipment rather than a traditional online shop.

Visitors can browse equipment categories such as:

  • Vehicle lifts
  • Garage workshop equipment
  • MOT testing equipment
  • Automotive servicing tools

Each product page includes key information and encourages visitors to contact the company to discuss pricing and installation.

Branding Guidelines and Marketing Materials

Alongside the website redesign, I also developed a set of branding guidelines for the company.

These guidelines were created to ensure future employees could easily maintain consistent branding when producing marketing materials.

The guidelines included:

  • Logo usage rules
  • Colour palette and typography
  • Layout structure for marketing materials
  • Image and branding standards

Providing clear guidelines helps ensure the company maintains a professional and consistent brand identity across all communications.

Brochure and Template Design

As part of the project I also created brochure templates that could be easily updated by staff within the business.

These templates allowed employees to quickly create new marketing materials when promoting products or services.

By providing structured templates, the company could maintain consistent branding while allowing non‑design staff to produce professional looking brochures.

Suggested screenshot:
Example brochure layout

A Website Designed for a Specialist Industry

Garage equipment suppliers often deal with high‑value products and installation services, meaning customers typically require more information before making a purchase.

The redesigned Kent Garage Equipment website helps support this process by combining:

  • A structured product catalogue
  • Installation project examples
  • Online brochures
  • Enquiry‑focused calls to action

This ensures the website acts as both a marketing tool and a product information resource for potential customers.

My Role in This Project

This website redesign was completed while I was employed by Kent Garage Equipment.

My responsibilities included:

Technologies Used

  • WordPress CMS
  • WooCommerce product catalogue
  • Responsive website design
  • Flipbook brochure viewer
  • Graphic design and branding

Stones Aquatics

Stones Aquatics is a new Aquatic Retail Store that will be launched August/September 2019 inside of Stones Garden Centre in Minster-on-Sea, Sheerness. The store will offer dry and livestock for Ponds including Koi, Tropical and Marine Fish. This project was a full E-Commerce project including branding design.

Although bearing the same name “Stones” as the garden centre, it is independently owned, and therefore did not need to completely match the current branding. Therefore we opted for a more minimal and modern design for the branding.

The shop sells a variety of fish and products and therefore limiting the logo to one of the 3 areas wouldn’t have been suitable. The area holds a lot of Koi Pond hobbyists, therefore this needed to be represented along with something to relate to the tropical side. The final logo is a Red Circle, this represents the pattern on a Tancho Koi with a Betta splendun (fighting fish) being a negative inside of the circle. The font chosen is more modern than the current branding, with the letter ‘A’ having a wave running through it.

Stones Aquatics Logo

The main navigation works the same as a Single Page Website, when you click on each link it navigates to a different section on the homepage. We wanted to keep the information minimal on each section and therefore felt a single section would be stronger than too much writing on a whole page. There are additional information pages with fact sheets and videos to compliment these sections.

When working on the design of the website we wanted it to be more visually appealing than the local competitors and therefore used wave shape dividers to make the layout more interesting.

SA-Design

Chat is a really important feature in todays websites, the ease of chat is even more important. Previously having chat on your website meant that someone had to be logged into the back end of the website, and be at a computer to talk with prospective clients; which for a small business is not practical. Facebook has launched Messenger for websites, this is a fantastic integration tool and means that when a message is sent using it through your website it will generate a pop up message on your phone using the Facebook Pages app. This means you can be anywhere and interact with your clients. The advantage for your clients is that it uses a platform they are already familiar with and once they leave your website they will still have a copy of your conversation in their facebook messages, unlike other systems where once you leave the site you lose your message.

With the new Facebook Messenger integration we can now link the shop direct to the Facebook Page shop, this means as we add new products to the website they will automatically be added and updated to the Facebook Page shop.

The website can integrate both with Quickbooks and Epos Now to make accounting and Stock Take much simpler. The website is fully GDPR compliant with notices for Cookies as well as permissions for integration for YouTube and Vimeo videos. It is fully secure and will automatically block users who try to access files that they are not allowed to or do not exist, after 3 attempts at login it will lock the user out for 20 minutes and forever if the attacks persist. The website is fully mobile responsive and will accept major cards for payment and Apple Pay. Although the website can easily be linked to Stripe or PayPal for a payment gateway this site is linked direct to the card service used in store RMS, which means that the website sales can benefit from lower transaction charges.

This is a continual project, at the moment the online sales are for Click & Collect only. Once all data for Size and Weight have been added to each product this will then be opened for national delivery. The website will calculate the packing size and automatically generate the postage costs.

Spartan Fitness – Logo Design

Strong Visual Branding

Iliyan came to us with a view to starting a new fitness brand called Spartan Fitness, we helped him find and secure a top value domain name “wearespartan.co.uk” and set to work on a new logo design. Our designers went all out on this one and came back with some pretty impressive imagery. What was great though was that the logo Iliyan liked the most and wanted to revise was actually created by one of our junior designers.

Revisions

Of course it is rare for a design to be perfect from the start and quite often the client likes to combine elements from several designs or even change the colours. The mask shape looked great but it was suggested that we try a different type of brush, use a font from one of the other designs, add a scar to the eye, add some detail to the weights and perhaps try a different colour such as gold.

Branding Design – Black Velvet Boudoir

Our client Dale Johnson of Black Velvet Boudoir recently got in contact to help re-brand his boudoir photography. Currently the BVB logo design comprises of a couple of stock elements put together:

Although he liked the overall look of it there would be issues around Copyrighting the design as is not bespoke. The fleurs in the design are nice and Dale enjoys the love heart although feels that it isn’t necessary to keep it. The first thing we did was ask Dale a series of questions about his business:

A Brief Description about Your Business:
Black Velvet Boudoir is more of a hobby than a mainline business. It offers high quality, luxury photoshoots of boudoir, lingerie and fine art nude subjects.

Ideas: Must not contain any clichés related to photography, this is less about the physical product and more about the experience and value it adds to making someone feel more confident about themselves.

Industry: Luxury Photographic, Lingerie, Boudoir

Look And Feel: Think about the Versace logo, it should feel high end and sophisticated. The brand is called black velvet so use inspiration from materials such as velvet, silk and lace. I quite like the use of the heart and the fleurs in the current logo, but don’t necessarily have to stay with this theme.

Preferred Style of Logo: Should be more round in shape as social media has started cropping to round images for profile pictures. It should have a serif based font as this is generally more elegant and fits with the flowing theme of boudoir materials.

Slogan: No slogan.

Inspiration:

Target Audience: Women aged 18-40

Then to determine the style a bit more we asked Dale to fill out the following form so our designers have something a bit more visual to work with:

Our designers set to work on their initial concepts, we never expect the first set of concepts to become the final design although sometimes this does happen. With so many options checked we developed quite a few initial concepts:

The initial concepts weren’t anywhere near where Dale wanted to be however he was able to narrow it down to 3 which were close to his idea:

They needed some extra work, the logo with the lady looks a little pregnant or overweight with the BVB written across her so it was suggested that we try re-working a few of these designs without the writing inside.

These concepts worked much better, it was decided that actually the logo with the lady wasn’t suitable. Dale then suggested to re-work these a little more and create some which are more circular in design.

Finally we were there, the first and fourth concept were the main contenders. After doing some research and showing the final 4 concepts to the target audience it was decided that the new design would be number one. The addition of the BVB lettering into the pattern made it more circular and was subtle enough not to be obvious it was in there.

A job done well, well done team and good luck Dale!

GNSolids Europe – Business Card Design

GNSolids Europe got in touch for some help with their new business card designs. The cards were not for specific people but to show their two types of services. We decided to keep it simple, drawing inspiration from the colours of their logo and adding a splash of colour that shows red on the top corners. The red area became perfect to list their services and we added a hint of red to the telephone numbers to break up the address sections.

The design shown is a virtual mockup, this was then sent to print on a nice thick 450gsm card, printed lithographically on both sides with 4 colours and finished off with a smooth matt laminate.

Website Launch STAT Centre

Youssouf Adama has just launched the new Success Tuition and Training Centre in Maidstone offering tuition and training courses to BTEC level in ICT, English, Maths and Science.

WARNING SIGNS

Youssouf initially contacted us to help develop a website for him that will allow a shopfront for his business, he provided us with a logo that set off warning signs in our heads:

It appeared very generic and typical of what a designer might come up with as their first conceptual idea, it is full of cliches and the writing is very dated for a modern business. The first thing we did was a Google Image Reverse Search to see if the logo was being used by anyone else, this resulted in over 65 other companies using the same graphic for their training centres.

As we are building his website it is important to get the branding right, the whole design of the website will revolve around the branding logo and colour scheme so we suggested that we design a unique logo especially for him. Our designers come up with the following options:

logo Concepts

Youssouf chose the first concept; which he felt didn’t need any alterations at all, he now has a unique logo that he can copyright and protect for his business. Now that we had a unique and modern logo it became a lot easier to design his website, all of the colours and fonts used were used in the web design concept.

The Brief

  • Create a new website that incorporates the use of e-commerce so that the sales of courses can be completed online.
  • The website should meet today’s design and security standards and be easily updated to meet changing standards and needs. The website was built on the platform WordPress which is open source, this will allow us to easily keep the website up-to-date, an SSL security certificate has been installed and a rigorous security check system that blocks and IP Address that consistently try to access files that they shouldn’t.
  • The website should have a back-end that allows the user to easily edit their own content, add blog posts, create new product listings and collate customer orders. A Learner Management System has been installed to allow for the addition and editing of courses, along with WooCommerce for shop items, training was provided as part of the website package so that the user/s can add and edit their own content.
  • The colour scheme should match that of the branding, the branding must be discussed to make sure it meets todays standards. As mentioned above the branding was reviewed and changed.
  • The header/hero images should be designed with a call to action in mind. These were discussed and then professionally photographed.
  • The website has to have the ability to accept payments online via BACS, Paypal and Stripe, this was achieved through two platforms; WooCommerce and a Learner Management System.
  • Students must be able to book onto courses online and this has to be limited to a set number of students per course. The system allows the administrator to add an Instructor, Date & Time and limit number of seats available which adjust as places are sold. The site also has the ability to provide online courses, tests/quizzes and produce automated certificates.
    courses1
  • There must be an area where Testimonials can be placed. We situated a testimonial slider on the home page that automatically changes:
    testimonials
  • Social media channels should be created for Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIN and Facebook. Where possible social shares should be available. We created all the social media pages, added links to the site in the header section, created social share buttons for courses and linked live updates. Twitter posts are now added to the front end of the site automatically along with any new posts or new courses:
    social
  • Courses should be searchable. We created a search bar that allows courses to be searched by Category, Type and Keywords.
    Search
  • Help may be needed to create copy. We understood that starting a new business can be a daunting task and when asked to produce a lot of copy for pages can cause anxiety. We helped Youssouf by researching and writing some of the copy on his behalf as well as editing the content that he provided. Where possible we tried to include some animation of graphs and images.
    TEEP
  • Tuition fees are variable and a discount is available for multiple students or when purchasing bulk sessions in advance. To facilitate this we create a shop type item where parents can select different variables so this can automatically be calculated and added to their basket. The credits can then be used to book time slots.
  • There must be an area for policies and procedures. We created several pages for policies, procedures, terms and conditions and FAQ’s to cover this, we even assisted in creating templates to make the policies look consistent and professional.
  • All imagery should be representative of the quality that can be expected from the brand. All imagery was planned and photographed specific for purpose, this included any promotional imagery needed for social media
