Meet the Team
A bit of history…
Darren left college in 2003 and worked in several roles ranging from a landscape foreman, web designer, graphic designer, cruise ship photographer and a teacher. Outside of his full time work he ran several businesses with others including a print & photographic studio as well as a web design and IT consultancy firm (not all at the same time). This gave him the background knowledge needed to launch Scorpion Media. In 2012 Darren decided to go off by himself in business and return to university to finally get a degree in photography; studying as a mature student at Ravensbourne College in London and finishing with a First Class Honours. Since completing the course in 2015 he has continued to work full time as a commercial photographer specialising mainly in cars and products.
From 2012 to the end of 2015 the company trading as Raid Photographic taught over 1800 students the Back to Basics photography course with many taking up other courses and workshops including Landscape Photography and Studio Portraiture. Whilst at University Darren started to produce editorial content for Classic Ford Magazine of whom he still shoots for today. It was at the end of 2015 Darren decided to stop teaching photography and start shooting more. The training website still exists but is now used purely for camera clubs who will book Darren to Judge competitions and give talks. Darren has given talks and workshops to members of The Royal Photographic Society and The Master Photographers Association, he regularly writes Master Class features for The RPS Journal.
Since concentrating mainly on shooting Darren has worked with the like of Davina McCall, Jessie J, JLS, Union J, Lawson, Amelia Lilly, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Prince of Luxembourg and the Countess of Wessex. Magazines he currently shoots for include Classic Ford, Custom Car, Street Machine and Total 911. Automotive clients have included Noble Cars, Kahn Design, SuperGlass and Harris Performance Engines. Product clients currently include Accessorize, Pearlessence and The Fragrance Shop.
In 2014 Darren worked on a website to help out a product client, she run a small shop in Canterbury called The Bead Pot. The aim was to be able to start selling her products online with a future vision of going online only. The Bead Pot still work with us and due to have a website upgrade in February 2018 as their business model has changed. Then in April 2017 we met Jeff and James of Harris Performance Engines, they needed good photography and a good website.
Scorpion Media was launched in September 2017′ which now brings together all the skills that Darren has gained since leaving school in 2001, web design, graphic design, print and photography. Kelly joined us having come from a background in customer relations and business development, with her friendly, bubbly and can do attitude to her work she reinforces the values and vision of the company ensuring our clients feel well looked after and valued.
