SuperGlass Maidstone
Building trust through photography that proved the impossible.
Creating consistent before and after imagery that demonstrated the true quality of automotive glass restoration while helping customers understand the value of preserving original factory glass.
SuperGlass Maidstone specialises in restoring scratched and damaged automotive glass, helping owners preserve the originality of classic and modern vehicles without replacing the factory-fitted glass.
The challenge wasn't simply photographing the finished result. It was creating images that customers would trust. Every photograph needed to accurately demonstrate the restoration while removing any doubt that the transformation was genuine.

01
Understanding The Brief
Show the restoration, not the photography.
Automotive glass is incredibly difficult to photograph. Reflections constantly change, scratches only appear under specific lighting conditions and even the smallest change in camera position can make before and after images impossible to compare.
The objective wasn't to create dramatic photographs. It was to produce honest, consistent images that clearly demonstrated the quality of the restoration while giving potential customers complete confidence in what they were seeing.
Because the images were destined for Facebook, Instagram and printed marketing material, composition and cropping also had to be planned before the first photograph was taken.
02
Planning The Perfect Shot
Every decision was made to show the restoration honestly.
Creating a believable before and after comparison wasn't simply a case of photographing the glass twice. Different lighting was needed to tell each part of the story accurately.
For the before image, a smaller, harder light source was positioned close to the glass to emphasise the scratches, staining and years of wear. The aim was to clearly reveal every imperfection so customers could appreciate the starting point of the restoration.
For the after image, the lighting was completely redesigned. A much larger softbox created softer, more even illumination that better represented how the restored glass would appear once refitted to the vehicle, while naturally reducing the visibility of the tiny imperfections that inevitably remain after restoration.
To ensure the comparison remained fair, every other element of the shoot was kept consistent. The camera position, lens, distance, shooting angle and glass position were all carefully matched between sessions.
Because the change in lighting also affected the background, the final images were composited during post-production using the same background and shadow, ensuring the only meaningful difference the customer noticed was the quality of the restoration itself.

Capturing The Final Images
Photography designed for marketing, not simply documentation.
Once the restoration had been completed, every image was colour corrected and prepared for multiple marketing platforms.
Landscape versions were created for Facebook, while square crops ensured the campaign remained consistent across Instagram.
Following the success of the first campaign documenting an MK1 Escort door glass, SuperGlass returned with a Maserati Bora restoration, allowing the same photographic process to be repeated and strengthening the consistency of the brand's marketing.
The project demonstrated that carefully planned commercial photography can do more than showcase a product. It can explain a specialist service, build trust and help customers understand the value of work that would otherwise be difficult to communicate.
The final images became the foundation of SuperGlass Maidstone's Facebook advertising, website content and printed marketing, giving customers confidence before making contact.

04
Explore the Project
Every image in this campaign was created with consistency in mind. By controlling the lighting, composition and colour throughout the entire process, the finished photographs became powerful marketing assets that demonstrated the quality of the restoration without exaggeration or misleading editing.
Since there are only three visuals, I'd make them large and let each one breathe rather than trying to fill the page with smaller images.
05
The Outcome
Images that helped customers believe the results.
The first campaign generated significant engagement across classic Ford communities, with enthusiasts surprised that original glass could be restored instead of replaced.
Its success led directly to a second commission featuring a Maserati Bora, using the same carefully planned photographic process to maintain consistency across the campaign.
Rather than creating artistic images, the project focused on producing photography that answered customer questions, built confidence and demonstrated the true quality of SuperGlass's specialist restoration service.
Photography Insight
Great commercial photography isn't about creating the most dramatic image. It's about creating the most believable one. By controlling every aspect of the shoot, from lighting and composition to colour accuracy and cropping, the only visible change between the photographs was the restoration itself. That consistency helped potential customers trust what they were seeing before they ever picked up the phone.
